Double pressure transmitter

Our dual pressure transmitters are suitable for simultaneously recording and monitoring two differential pressures in ventilation and air conditioning systems, clean rooms or industrial applications. They reliably convert the measured pressure values into standardized output signals such as 0-10 V or 4...20 mA. Depending on the model, the devices also have a potential-free changeover contact output for flexible switching functions - ideal for demanding regulation and control tasks.

What is a dual pressure transmitter?

A dual pressure transmitter is a Pressure- or differential pressure transducer with two independent measuring channels in one device. Each channel records its own pressure status and outputs this as a separate output signal. This allows two measuring tasks to be processed in parallel without having to use two individual sensors.

In practice, this is particularly interesting if both measuring points are located close to each other or belong together functionally. A typical example is two filter stages in a ventilation system. One channel can also be used for filter monitoring and the other for fan monitoring. Asymmetrical tasks are also possible, such as a low pressure range for fine differential pressure measurement and a higher range for more robust monitoring in the same system. The PREMASGARD®-722x series offers symmetrical and asymmetrical measuring range combinations, depending on the type.

Where dual pressure transmitters show their strengths

The greatest benefit is achieved where several pressure states are relevant at the same time. In building automation, this mainly applies to ventilation systems with several monitoring points.

Typical fields of application are

  • Filter monitoring
Monitor two filter stages in one device instead of providing two separate transmitters.
  • Clean room technology
Detect two pressure zones or two airlock areas in parallel.
  • Ventilation and air conditioning ducts:
Pressure separately before and after individual components.
  • Fan monitoring
Check pressure conditions upstream and downstream of the fan.
  • Medical and laboratory technology:
Stable and traceable detection of differential pressure conditions in sensitive areas.
  • Industrial applications with clean air
Combine two gaseous, non-aggressive media conditions in one device.

This is particularly relevant in compact system concepts. Where installation space is tight and the number of field devices needs to be kept low, a dual pressure transmitter offers a clear system advantage. Instead of two housings, two power supplies and two mounting points, one device with two outputs is sufficient. This simplifies parts lists, installation and service.

Two pressure outlets in one device: the real added value

The special character of this sensor type lies not only in the two measuring channels, but also in the separation of the two signals. Each channel is recorded separately and fed to the BMS, DDC or PLC as a separate output. This allows two states to be visualized, controlled or alarmed simultaneously.

This is particularly helpful when different information is required from a common system section. For example, one channel can be set to a fine measuring range for low differential pressures, while the second channel monitors a significantly higher range. This allows applications to be designed more precisely than would be possible with a universal single device or with a rough compromise selection.

Another practical advantage: replacing two individual devices with a dual pressure transducer not only reduces installation costs. The susceptibility to errors in the wiring and in the assignment of measuring points is also reduced because both channels are combined in a common, clearly defined device platform.

Selection guide: Which dual pressure transmitter fits?

The selection should not just be based on "two channels yes or no". The decisive factor is how the two printing tasks look in the real application. Four points are particularly important here.

1. required measuring ranges per channel

Not every application needs two identical channels. There are versions with two low pressure ranges, with two higher pressure ranges or as a mixed type with a fine and a significantly larger range. With the 722x series, several measuring ranges can be set per channel using DIP switches. Variants for up to ±500 Pa, up to ±7000 Pa and a combination of both are available. This allows the design to be adapted to the system in a much more practical way.

2. do you need a display?

An illuminated display is particularly helpful during commissioning, service and on-site checks. The display is shown cyclically for each channel. This is useful if technicians want to check directly on the device which actualPressure is actually present without having to additionally access the control level.

3. connection type and installation environment

The variant with cable gland is often suitable for classic field installation. Where pluggable, service-friendly connections are preferred, a Q variant with M12 plug connector is of interest. This can be particularly advantageous in plant engineering and with standardized mounting concepts.

4. accuracy and application character

The right range selection is particularly important for low differential pressures. A measuring range that is too large reduces the practical resolution in the relevant operating range. A measuring range tailored to the application therefore not only improves the measuring quality, but also the controllability and alarm reliability.

Differentiation from similar devices

Not every pressure sensor with two connections is automatically a dual pressure transmitter. This distinction is important for planning and tendering.

A simple Differential pressure transducer usually has one measuring channel with two pressure connections and provides exactly one measured value. It is the right choice if only a single differential pressure is to be monitored.

A dual pressure transmitter, on the other hand, has two measuring channels and two outputs. It is useful if two separate measuring tasks are to be mapped in parallel in one device.

A Differential pressure regulator on the other hand, not only measures, but actively intervenes in the process. For example, it regulates the volume flow or Pressure in a channel or room to a specified setpoint. In contrast to a pure measuring transducer, the focus here is on control, not just on providing signals for the BMS.

A Volume flow transducer often also uses the differential pressure as a measured variable, but calculates the volume flow rate directly from it (e.g. via orifices, Venturi nozzles or measuring crosses). It is the right choice if the Pressure itself, but the air volume is the decisive control variable.

The Atmospheric air pressure sensor in turn measures the absolute ambient pressure. This plays a role in altitude compensation or in special applications, for example, but must be clearly distinguished from differential pressure or dual pressure measurements.

A Pressure switch finally works in binary mode: It switches when a limit value is reached. This is sufficient for simple monitoring tasks, but not suitable for continuous measurement, trend analysis or control.

Select dual pressure transmitters for building automation, HVAC and clean room technology

When choosing a dual pressure transmitter, you should not only look at the price, but also at the overall benefits in the project: suitable measuring ranges per channel, output signals, good commissioning options, robust mounting and useful accessories.

Particularly interesting for typical HVAC and clean room applications:

  • Versions with two identical low-pressure ducts
  • Variants with two higher pressure ranges
  • Mixing variants with one channel up to ±500 Pa and a second up to ±7000 Pa
  • Devices with display for service and on-site display
  • Q variants with M12 plug connector for pluggable installation
  • Accessories for hose connection, clean room installation and external mounting

This allows the solution to be tailored to the respective application - from filter monitoring in ventilation ducts to parallel pressure monitoring in sensitive zones. Anyone wishing to combine two pressure signals in one compact, industrial field device will find a technically convincing and planning-friendly solution here. Basic technical data such as 24 V AC/DC, IP65, automatic 0-10 V/4...20 mA detection, switchable measuring ranges and a calibratable design make this sensor type particularly interesting for professional building and process applications.
