Motion sensors

KINASGARD® presence detectors register even very small movements at a distance of 10 meters - thanks to the patented lens system as well as an infrared sensor of the high-end variant. The devices have an aperture angle of 110° and 360° circumference and detect changes in the infrared radiation of objects.

How does a presence detector work?

Thanks to a patented lens system with 20 individual lenses as well as an high-end infrared sensor, the KINASGARD® presence detectors register even very small movements at a distance of 10 metres. The devices have an aperture angle of 110° and 360° circumference. The sensor detects changes in infrared radiation, i.e. heat radiation resulting from movements of people or objects. The temperature difference between the sensor and the object must be > 5 K.

What is an infrared sensor?

An infrared sensor is a light-sensitive component that can detect infrared radiation. Infrared sensors detect heat and movement of bodies and objects. Presence detectors are equipped with infrared sensors and are thus able to register the presence of people in rooms just by their body heat and very slight movements.

What is the difference between presence detectors and motion detectors?

While motion detectors react exclusively to movement and are intended to provide additional lighting in dark corners, presence detectors register the presence or absence of people in the room - even if there is just a little movement.
Motion detectors:
  • Motion detectors are used indoors and outdoors
  • Motion detectors detect larger movements
  • Motion sensors remain active as long as movement is detected (independent of brightness)
  • Motion sensors switch the light off again when no more movement is detected (or after a defined time)

Presence detectors:
  • Presence detectors are used exclusively indoors
  • Presence detectors detect even the smallest movement and body temperature (e.g. also people in a seated position in the office)
  • If the ambient light is sufficient, the artificial lights remain switched off despite detected movement

Where are presence / motion detectors used?

Motion sensors and presence detectors are used, for example, for monitoring living spaces, as a component of control and alarm technology, for automatic light switching or as motion-dependent control of room functions, such as lowering the temperature of unused rooms.
